3rd Ong Pagoda Festival opens

(ĐN)- The 2015 Ong Pagoda Festival was opened yesterday evening with the attendance of Chairman Vy Van Vu of Dong Nai provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tri of the provincial People's Committee along with a large number of visitors.

 

(ĐN)- The 2015 Ong Pagoda Festival was opened yesterday evening with the attendance of Chairman Vy Van Vu of Dong Nai provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Tri of the provincial People’s Committee along with a large number of visitors.

During three-day event, many activities will be held, such as unicorn-lion-dragon dance, traditional music performance, calligraphy performance, etc.

The festival, the third of its kind, aims to contemplate and worship, recall ancestors, and pray for safety and prosperity for the country and people.

Also at the opening ceremony, organizes launched a fundraising drive to help local poor people. The donated money will be handed over to funds for the poor of Bien Hoa city and Hiep Hoa commune to support the poor.

Ong Pagoda is located at Hiep Hoa commune, Bien Hoa city. It was built in 1684 by the Chinese Community in Cu Lao Pho (Pho isle). At first, it was named Quan De Pagoda, and later renamed That Phu Co Temple (or Ong Pagoda).

In 2001, Ong Pagoda was listed as national cultural heritage.
