Urgent project gets govn’t nod to extend Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Long Thanh Airport

On August 27, the Government issued Resolution No. 255/NQ-CP on building an urgent project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Dong Nai City's administrative center and Long Thanh International Airport.

The Government has issued a resolution on the construction of an urgent project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Dong Nai City's administrative center and Long Thanh Airport.

Under the resolution, the Government authorized the Dong Nai City People's Committee to carry out the urgent construction project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Dong Nai City's administrative center and Long Thanh Airport in accordance with Clause 2, Article 70 of the 2025 Law on Construction.

The Government tasked the Dong Nai City People's Committee with directing the implementation of the project in compliance with construction, public-private partnership (PPP) and other relevant laws, ensuring efficiency, quality, safety, openness and transparency and preventing any violations. The city is also required to carry out compensation and site clearance in a way that balances the interests of residents, businesses, organizations and other relevant parties, while preventing violations and shortcomings and avoiding complaints or complicated security and public-order situations. It is also required to closely and promptly coordinate with specialized units under the Ministry of Public Security to ensure security and public order.

At the same time, the city must review and assess the investor selection process in a public, transparent and objective manner, ensuring that selected investors have the capacity to meet the project's requirements for progress, quality and efficiency. The project must also be developed in an integrated manner and connected with other metro lines in line with approved plans, while maximizing benefits for the State, balancing the interests of businesses and preventing violations, losses and waste.

The Government assigned the Ministry of Finance to inspect and supervise project implementation in accordance with regulations. The Ministry of Construction will support and guide the Dong Nai City People's Committee and relevant agencies in implementing the project in compliance with construction regulations and ensuring quality and safety.

The project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Dong Nai City's administrative center and Long Thanh Airport is nearly 44km long, with a maximum design speed of 120km/h. It consists of two sections: Section 1, running from Suoi Tien Station to Dong Nai City's administrative center, is about 7.1km long, while Section 2, extending from the administrative center to Long Thanh Airport, is about 36.4km long. The project has a preliminary total investment of more than VND75 trillion.

In April 2026, the Dong Nai City People's Council approved the investment policy for the project under the PPP model. In May 2026, the Dong Nai People's Committee approved the proposed route alignment and locations of project structures. In June 2026, the City People's Committee approved the feasibility study for the project's compensation, support and resettlement plan.
