The Dong Nai City People's Committee has proposed its preferred investment option for the Dong Nai 1 Bridge upgrade project in response to the Ministry of Construction’s request for comments on a pre-feasibility study report covering navigational-clearance improvements at several bridges along key road and waterway corridors.

After reviewing and comparing the investment options proposed by the Maritime and Waterway Project Management Board, the city endorsed Option 2 for the reconstruction of Dong Nai 1 Bridge under the project to improve navigational clearance of bridges in the North and South. Under the proposed plan, the entire superstructure of the existing bridge would be replaced with prestressed reinforced-concrete spans similar to those of the adjacent new Dong Nai Bridge. The existing bridge piers and abutments would be retained and elevated to achieve the required navigational clearance, while their foundations would be reinforced to ensure the necessary load-bearing capacity.

The Dong Nai City People’s Committee also requested that the Ministry of Construction instruct the Maritime and Waterway Project Management Board to study further and determine appropriate vertical-clearance and navigation-channel specifications for the bridge in accordance with relevant regulations.

The Committee pledged to work closely with the project developer to complete compensation and site-clearance work on schedule, ensuring the timely handover of the site for project implementation.

According to the Dong Nai City People’s Committee, upgrading the Dong Nai 1 Bridge is necessary to ensure adequate navigational clearance along national inland waterway routes in Southern Vietnam and to facilitate synchronized waterway transport operations across the entire corridor. The project is also expected to enhance inland waterway freight capacity, support the development of multimodal logistics services in the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region, and strengthen links with major seaport clusters in the Southeast region.
