Ahead of the implementation of the two-tier local government model, Trang Bom District had already begun preparing its dossier for urban area status. Building on this solid foundation, the newly established Trang Bom Commune has continued its operation along the path of urbanization.

From April 30, 2026, Trang Bom will officially be upgraded to ward status, marking the first step toward a broader goal of building a modern urban area and improving residents’ quality of life.
A solid foundation for the new ward
Trang Bom Commune is formed through the merger of four administrative units: Trang Bom Township and the communes of Song Trau, Quang Tien, and Giang Dien. It is among the localities identified for urban development, thanks to its favorable location, area, population size, and economic growth drivers.
Phan Trung Tinh, Vice Chairman of the Trang Bom Commune People’s Committee, said the locality holds strong advantages for sustainable urban development. It serves as a gateway connecting major growth poles such as Ho Chi Minh City, former Bien Hoa City, and former Long Thanh District. Trang Bom is not only a key trade transit point but also plays an important role in the region’s logistics and warehousing network. With an area of nearly 69 square kilometers and a population exceeding 95,000, of which a large proportion is young, the locality boasts an abundant workforce capable of quickly adapting to industrialization and urbanization trends.
Its economic structure has shifted markedly toward an urban model, anchored by two main pillars: industry–construction and trade–services. The presence of two industrial parks, dozens of cooperatives, and thousands of household businesses has created a dynamic economic ecosystem, laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.
Beyond economic drivers, Trang Bom also meets key criteria of an administrative and service center. Government agencies, banks, and postal and telecommunications services are centrally located, facilitating access for both residents and businesses.
NGUYEN SON HUNG, former Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, former Chairman of (old) Trang Bom District People's Committee:
New name should come with new quality
The upgrade of Trang Bom to a ward is an inevitable development following long-term preparations in infrastructure, planning, and resource accumulation. It marks not only the result of past development but also the continuation of efforts by generations of local leaders and residents. It can be said that this is an important milestone, affirming Trang Bom's increasingly clear position and role in the province's urbanization process.
I hope that the new ward government apparatus must operate in a streamlined, effective, and efficient manner, staying close to the people and better serving them. The upgrade should not merely be a change in administrative title but must be reflected in improved urban management, discipline, order, and a more civilized, modern living environment. More importantly, local authorities should proactively innovate governance methods and apply digital technologies to enhance transparency and responsiveness, meeting the needs of the people once Dong Nai becomes a centrally governed city.
Regarding proposals, I believe that special attention should be paid to personnel work, because the key factor is still people. It is necessary to build a team of ward officials and civil servants with capacity, courage, high sense of responsibility, understanding of reality, and a service-oriented mindset. When the apparatus is good and the staff are good, then the transition from commune to ward will truly bring practical and sustainable value.
Notably, technical and social infrastructure has been relatively well-developed: 100% of households have access to electricity and permanent housing, while education, healthcare, cultural, and sports facilities continue to expand in both scale and quality. From universities and colleges to regional medical centers, cultural institutions, and parks, these facilities have contributed to improving both material and spiritual life for residents—an essential criterion for urban development.
Local authorities believe these foundations not only meet the requirements for ward status but also indicate that Trang Bom is ready to enter a new stage of development with higher and more modern governance standards.
In the first quarter of 2026, Trang Bom recorded budget revenues exceeding VND155 billion, achieving 50.3% of the annual target. This not only creates room to exceed the annual plan but also demonstrates the economic scale, efficiency of resource exploitation, and the local government's operational capacity.
Nguyen Phi Long, General Director of Khang Nam Real Estate and Construction Environment Group Joint Stock Company, noted that Trang Bom holds strong development potential. In September 2025, the company launched a housing project worth over VND733 billion, with nearly 1,000 units. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, and upon completion, the project will provide housing for around 3,500 residents and workers in local industrial zones, contributing to urban development and social welfare.
Improving the quality of life for residents
As it transitions to ward status, Trang Bom aims to enhance residents’ quality of life in a greener, smarter, and more sustainable direction.
To realize the above goal, after the Resolution of the 1st Party Congress of the commune, for the 2025-2030 term, was issued, the locality proactively reviewed and adjusted its planning to expand urban space, develop concentrated residential areas, and ensure harmony between economic development and technical infrastructure. The transportation system has been synchronously invested in and upgraded, effectively connecting with key arteries such as National Highway 1, Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, gradually eliminating infrastructure "bottlenecks."
Along with that, the locality is carrying out urban renovation, ranging from lighting systems, drainage to green spaces, public spaces... All aim to genuinely improve the living environment, not just change its appearance.
On April 14, 2026, the first session of the 16th National Assembly Standing Committee approved Resolution No. 237/NQ-UBTVQH16 on the establishment of 10 wards in Dong Nai Province, including Trang Bom Ward, which has a natural area of over 68.7 square kilometers and a population of more than 95,500. The resolution will take effect from April 30, 2026.
Le Ngoc Tien, Deputy Secretary of the Trang Bom Party Committee, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that for the 2026-2030 period, the development orientation is to build Trang Bom into a green, smart, and modern urban area, with people placed at the center of enjoyment. Technical and social infrastructure will continue to be prioritized for investment, covering areas such as transportation, schools, healthcare and essential public utilities. Digital transformation is an important "lever" to improve the quality of online public services, gradually forming a digital government, helping people access services faster and more transparently.
Along with that, the locality focuses on sustainable urban economic development, encouraging trade - services, digital economy; improving the investment environment, creating jobs, and increasing income for residents. The fields of education, healthcare, and culture continue to be enhanced, aiming to better serve the increasing demands of urban society.
It can be seen that, based on the solid foundation inherited from the former Trang Bom District, along with the clear orientation of the province and commune, Trang Bom's transition to a ward is inevitable, representing a step forward in the quality of life, allowing residents to enjoy the values of an urban area.
