(ĐN)- More than 1,200 hectares of the summer-autumn rice crop in Dong Nai province have been affected by yellow snails, an increase of nearly 500 hectares compared to the previous week, reported the Provincial Plant Protection Department. Rainy weather in the province encouraged high population of yellow snails.
The three hardest hit districts were Xuan Loc, Dinh Quan and Trang Bom.
As known, over 21,000 hectares of rice have been planted for the summer-autumn crop 2011 in Dong Nai province.
The Provincial Plant Protection Department says that heavy showers will continue to affect the province in the coming time and the excessive rain will create conditions conducive to the flourishing of yellow snails. Thus, the Department is calling on local farmers to kill yellow snails to prevent the spread of the pest.
