(ĐN)- The area under safe vegetable production in Dong Nai province has expanded to nearly 5,000 hectares for the 2010/2011 winter-spring crop, an increase of over 500 hectares from the same period of the previous year, according to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Districts of Xuan Loc, Tan Phu, Trang Bom and Dinh Quan are the largest producers of vegetables in Dong Nai.
The increase in the area under vegetable cultivation in the province is due to high vegetable price. Many rice farmers have shifted to vegetable cultivation because of its high enonomic value and tolerance to water deficit conditions. Despite high crop yields and high vegetable price, local farmers have a low profit margin due to high input costs in agricultural crop production.
