The authorities said the abnormal change in the rivers might have contributed to the death of the fish, some of which have high economic value like dieu hong, chep (carp), lang (hemibagrus) and breeding fish, causing a loss of hundreds of millions of Vietnamese dong.
According to the initial statistics, a large number of fish have died after only two weeks. Earlier, around 55 tonnes of farmed fish in Dong Nai died mysteriously on June 7-8, caused estimated losses of VND2 billion.
Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Department of Aquiculture are now taking water samples of the rivers to determine the cause of the death of fish raised by farmers in cages in the rivers.
