(ĐN)- In the 2009-2010 winter-spring crop, the area under cassava cultivation in Dong Nai increased by roughly 1000 hectares (to more than 2,500 hectares) compared to the same period last year. The largest growing and production areas in the province are Vinh Cuu, Xuan Loc and Trang Bom districts. Local farmers are expanding the area under cassava cultivation because the sale price of fresh cassava at the garden is over VND 1,000 a kilo and they can earn a lot money from growing cassava. Most of local farmers are planting new high-yielding cassava varieties such as KM 98-1, KM 98-2, KM 140… and they are expecting a bumper crop of cassava in the 2009-2010 winter-spring crop with a yield of over 24 tonnes per hectare.
