Flash floods may occur in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- Due to the affect of the tropical depression coupled with the strong southwest monsoon, Dong Nai is expected to have heavy rains in the next few days with rainfall ranging between 90-130mm, said Nguyen Huu Tu, Director of the Provincial Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre.

(ĐN)- Storm No. 8, Koppu, will bring heavy rains to north and central Vietnam.

At one pm yesterday, the eye of the storm was positioned at 130km east of China’s Leizhou peninsula.

As it crosses Leizhou peninsula, Koppu is likely to weaken to become a tropical depression and, by one pm today, the center of the storm is predicted to pass 100km to the north of Mong Cai, Quang Ninh, with winds of about 50 kilometers per hour.

Koppu will bring a rough sea and downpours to coastal provinces from Quang Ninh as far south as Phu Yen.

He also warned of possible floods, particularly in districts of Tan Phu, Dinh Quan, Vinh Cuu, Bien Hoa city…

He asked residents in areas threatened by possible floods to evacuate in order to prevent human and property loss.

On September 13, heavy rains inundated 19 houses and destroyed nearly 400 hectares of crops in Long Khanh town and Xuan Loc district. In addition, two bridges were swept away by the floods while many electrical posts were toppled. There were no injuries or deaths because local authorities have evacuated local people out of low-lying and danger areas.
