(ĐN)- The Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee yesterday held a meeting to review the province’s socio-economic performance in the first eight months this year and set key tasks for the remaining months of the year. Speaking at the meeting, chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Mot urged local relevant agencies to identify and implement strategies to manage difficulties to achieve set goals for 2009.
Dong Nai registered an increased of nearly 8 percent in its industrial production value to over VND53 trillion in the first eighth months of this year while the province’s total retail sales of goods and services during the same period is estimated to reach over VND26 trillion, an increase of 20 per cent from the same peiod last year. The province are facing difficulties in attracting foreign investment due to the adverse impacts of the global economic crisis. Between January and August, over $480 million in foreign investment capital poured into Dong Nai, including both capital for new projects and additional capital for existing ones. During the same period, the province also saw more than VND45.5 trillion in domestic investment capital, an increase of nearly 3 per cent over last year. In addition, the province created jobs for nearly 30,000 people and built houses for over 2,400 ethnic minority households.
