Impressive economic growth recorded in Dong Nai

Dong Nai’s industrial production value in April was estimated at over VND6.400 billion, up 1.4 percent from the previous month. Accordingly, the province’s total industrial production value in the first four months of 2009 increased almost 7 percent compared with the same time of 2008 while the total retail value of goods and services in the province between January and April this year increased 1.7 percent over the same period of last year. The province’s banks mobilised deposits worth over VND 30,000 billion in the first fourth months of this year, up 8.4 per cent over the same period of last year. During the same period, the province’s total investment capital for social development reached more than VND 2,000 billion, an increase of 13 per cent from the same period last year while the province created jobs for nearly 30,000 people, just 35.3 per cent of the years plan.

 

Due to the adverse impacts of the global economic crisis, the province’s export turnover in the first fourth months this year accounted for 88 percent of the total export target for 2009 while the import turnover in the province during the same period decreased by 38 per cent from the same period last year. During the reviewed period, the province licensed 3 foreign direct investment projects with a total registered capital of $6.8 million. Between January and April, $53.1 million in foreign investment capital poured into Dong Nai, including both capital for new projects and additional capital for existing ones, the figure represented 2.7 per cent of the year’s target.

 

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Mot said that the province recorded the impressive economic growth in April and in the first fourth months this year. The Chairman also asked banks in Dong Nai to try their best to help businesses and individuals gain easier access to loans. He stressed that the need for the province to implement measures to prevent economic downturn, maintain economic stability and ensure social security. The Chairman asked credit organisations in the province to give poor households easier access to credit in order to support them to develop production and achieve sustainable poverty reduction. He urged local relevant agencies to develop measures to prevent future outbreaks from occurring as well as to pay attention to the implementation of measures to prevent natural disasters and strengthen preparedness to fight floods that can cause damage to production.
