Long Khanh targets 18.4 percent GDP growth for 2009

(ĐN)- In 2008, Long Khanh town achieved a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 16.62 percent, exceeding the target of 16.5 percent for the year. Accordingly, the service sector increased 18.6 percent, the industry and construction up 21.1 percent, the agriculture increased 5.9 percent. The spiritual and material life of the local people had remarkably improved over recent years, with the annual average income per capita up to VND18.25 million this year. Other sectors such as transport, electricity, water, telecom, etc have achieved and exceeded the targets set for this year. In the period, Long Khanh also attracted VND350 billion from private investors, VND40 billion higher than the year’s plan.

The town plans to reach GDP growth rate of 18.4 percent in 2009, with the increase of 18.3 percent in service sector, 27.8 percent in industry and construction, and 5.8 percent in agriculture. It also targets annual average income per capita of more than VND22 million, up 20.62 percent compared to 2008. Moreover, Long Khanh will strive to reduce the rate of poor households to 0.31 percent, create jobs for 3,200 laborers and raise the rate of skilled workers to 55 percent.
