Being one of the first foreign-owned companies, Vietnam Manufacturing and Export Processing Co.Ltd., VMEP Vietnam, is an example of enterprises that combine a business target with the goal of helping in the community’s development.

 

To nurture the business principle “Receiving from Society, Giving Back to Society”, the company has been carrying out many activities that help the poor and contribute to the development of the community.

 

 The motorbike producer has been in Vietnam for over 14 years, and each year VMEP Vietnam offers over VND1.2 billion to the community. In 2006, the company organized a program called “Ten thousand hearts” in which it provided people in need with a total of VND1 billion. In total that year, the company helped over 10,238 people. In 2007, there were 10,523 poor and handicapped people who received support from VMEP.

 

VMEP Vietnam has built 14 houses for the poor. It has plans to build 100 bridges in the Mekong Delta at a total cost of over VND3 billion to improve the life of the poor people in the region. Up to the end of February 2008, 100 bridges had been completed.

 

The company also helps society to take care of the next generations. It has helped children in remote regions to continue their education by sponsoring education and culture development programs. Their activities in education do not stop there. Last year, the company hired deaf and young handicapped people to work at the company, helping them to have a chance to live on their own earnings and so start to look for a better future. In addition, the company is supporting orphanages by offering orphans and the handicapped with equipments to make handicrafts so that they can work and earn a living by themselves.

 

Sustainable

 

For a large number of Vietnamese, motorbikes and scooters of the SYM brand have become one of their first choices for good quality and beautiful design. VMEP Vietnam considers Vietnam its main market and mostly targets the rural markets.

Vietnam. The company has built up a good understanding of the market and customers’ interests. As a result, the company comes up with designs and models that fit the niche that is the Vietnam market. It is also the first Vietnam foreign-owned motorbike enterprise to build a motorbike research and development center in Vietnam.

 

VMEP says Vietnam will take on even more important role by becoming the base of the company’s ASEAN operations. Not only will VMEP Vietnam will be responsible of motivating expansion into new markets region-wide, but also it will be in charge of improving the product’s global competitiveness through an international procurement system. In Vietnam, the company has established a nationwide sales network.

 

The strength of the company is the way it adapts to each place where it operates. To serve the specific needs of each niche market, the company has the research center to find the wishes of the people and economic trends. Therefore, it can come up with special products for special places. Already VMEP Vietnam reaches out to other countries. The company exports its bikes to over 20 countries, including Europe, Israel, Taiwan and Asia.

 

As a target for this year, the company will develop new products needed by consumers and society. In addition, it will expand the present distribution network. More importantly, it will also continue to face up to its responsibility of contributing to the development of Vietnam.

 

Its efforts have been recognized by society. For instance, the company was the first business to receive the Golden Globe trophy from the Ministry of Planning and Investment. In the future, VMEP Vietnam says it wants to become the leading enterprise in the motorbike industry in the Asian region, with Vietnam as its base as the ASEAN operations center.
