The Dong Nai Industry Department announced that, industrial and agricultural production value in the southern province is likely to reach a record high this year.

 

Total value of industrial production is anticipated to increase by about 22 per cent over the same period in 2006 to VND63.53 trillion (US$3.97 billion), according to the province’s Industry Department.

 

The foreign-invested sector is expecting to increase 24.8 per cent, followed by the central State-owned sector up 14 per cent, the local State-owned sector up 13 per cent and the non-State-owned sector up 24.8 per cent.

 

Footwear, textiles, chemicals, rubber, construction material, paper production, timber processing and mined ores are all forecast to enjoy year-on-year growth of around 20 per cent this year.

 

Even though agriculture has suffered at the hands of freakish weather conditions not to mention disease, agricultural production value this year is predicted to increase 5.4 per cent over last year to VND6.62 trillion.

 

Among the total value of VND6.62 trillion, farming production should reap VND4.23 trillion, up 6.4 per cent; forestry production VND69 billion with aquatic production accounting for the remainder.

 

The province’s Industry Department estimates export revenue to nudge $5.4 billion this year, a year-on-year increase of 27.6 per cent - 10 per cent of the country’s total export revenue.

 

Dong Nai’s main exports are: rubber, coffee, cashews, pepper, honey, pottery, woodwork, handicrafts, textiles and footwear.
