Most of the participants in the Southern Key Economic Zone Investment Mart 2007 specialize in real estate, infrastructure, telecommunication and mechanical engineering, according to the organizer.
Specific meetings between foreign investors and 48 local enterprises will be arranged during the event. Representatives of eight cities and provinces will also attend these meetings to present 407 projects in need of investment.
"On display will be more than 400 projects classified into eight sectors - real estate, urban development, tourism, infrastructure, energy, hi-tech and IT, financial services and services," said Nguyen Anh Ngoc, deputy director of the HCMC Investment and
HCMC will call for investment in 130 projects, of which 90 are from the private sector.
The key projects include Thu Thiem New Urban area, the North-West area, Saigon Hi-Tech Park and Cu Chi District.
Most of HCMCs projects involve transport and infrastructure, industrial parks and urban towns, health services, hospitality, culture and agriculture.
Many newly-conceived projects to be presented at the fair could attract the attention of investors, such as a tramway, car parks, healthcare, resorts and commercial centers, said the organizer.
These include the projects that will be implemented soon and are underway but need more capital, Ngoc said, adding project owners will take the opportunity to field questions from investors.
Besides face-to-face meetings between investors and local enterprises, each city or province will arrange a workshop to introduce what they could offer to investors, Ngoc said.
The fair will highlight close cooperation with multilateral agencies, associations, and private sector organizations, including the American Chamber of Commerce, the European Chamber of Commerce, Japan External Trade Organization and U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council.
Creating closer ties between the provinces in the zone to boost FDI will also be one of the main purposes of the event.
The Southern Key Economic Zone consists of HCMC, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Long An, Tay Ninh and Tien Giang.
