The Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) aims to completely equitise its affiliations by 2008 under a plan recently submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

The equitisation will target electricity generation and distribution companies, according to EVN Director General Pham Le Thanh.

Under the plan, a national power transmission company will be set up to join hands with the National Centre for Electricity Moderation and other power plants of EVN in ensuring national power security.

The EVN has so far equitised three companies, namely the Vinh Son-Song Hinh and Thac Ba hydroelectric power plants, and the Pha Lai thermo-electric power plant.

Equitisation of five other plants is currently underway, including the Ba Ria, Uong Bi and Ninh Binh thermo-electric power plants, and the Da Nhim-Ham Thuan-Da Mi and Thac Mo hydroelectric power plants.

EVN has equitised four companies in electricity distribution and are striving to finalise equitisation for electro-mechanic and electric consultancy companies by the second quarter of this year.

Regarding power plants which are currently under construction, EVN will set up joint-stock companies on the basis of project management units to mobilise capital and manage investment. These companies will later distribute electricity for EVN.
