The event, taking place until February 24 with 7,000 objects on display, was a play ground for not only Vietnamese artisans but also for horticulturalists from other Asian countries and territories.

The festival is an annual traditional cultural activity of Ho Chi Minh City to meet public demand to view beautiful varities of flowers on the occasion of the New Year and creating an attractive place for travellers to the city.

More than 500 bonsai artisans from Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam have registered for a booth at the festival, Tran Thien Ha, Deputy Director of the 2007 Spring Flower Festival Organising Board said.

Apart from rare bonsai trees and flowers cultivated by local artisans, Thai artisans are expected to bring many different varieties of orchids and Malaysian and Singaporean artisans will display miniature gardens.

This year’s festival is on a larger scale in both quality and quantity of displayed objects in comparison with last year’s, said Nguyen Thanh Tai, Vice Chairman of The Municipal People’s Committee.

The festival also features various species of flowers from cold climates, ornamental fish and butterflies, he added.
