Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Bich Dat has assured the US business community that Viet Nam always supports foreign investors and makes sure all foreign invested projects benefit both investors and the country.
Speaking at a round-table conference on business opportunities in Viet Nam held on Oct. 10 in Washington D.C, Deputy Minister Dat noted that this is a right time for foreign investors, especially those from the US, to do business in Viet Nam, as the country is to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Representatives from 50 leading US companies showed their interest to Viet Nams development strategy in energy, e-commerce, stock exchange, banking services, education and training, infrastructure, environmental protection and mechanisms of industrial and export processing zones.
Deputy Minister Dat briefed the participants of Viet Nams economic and administrative reform, investment and trade environment as well as the countrys banking reform.
The Vietnamese delegates urged US entrepreneurs to be more aggressive quicker in investing in the country as they can benefit from exporting their products to China and other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
From now until 2010, Viet Nam will double the number of its industrial and export processing zones which currently stands at 130, they said, noting that each zone will have a specific policy to attract investment.
The Vietnamese delegation is in the US to promote investment activities and request the US Congress to approve the permanent normal trade relations status for Viet Nam. It will organise similar conferences in Chicago and San Francisco in the coming days.
