(ĐN)- On Thursday morning, March 2, 2006, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai received the Thailand delegation of the Siam Cement Group led by Mr. Chaovalit Akabut, Chairman of one of the group’s subsidiary specializing in the paper and packaging business.

The Siam Cement Group was founded under the Royal Decree of His Majesty King Rama VI in 1913 as Thailand’s first cement producer, a construction material critical to national development. The Group has expanded continuously since that time, become the largest and most advanced industrial conglomerate in Thailand with five strategic business units: Petrochemicals, Paper and Packaging, Cement, Building Products, and Distribution. The group intends to invest in establishing its paper and packaging manufacturing division in Vietnam with an initial capital amounting to about US$ 100 million. Thus, the purpose of the delegations visit was to study the current investment environment and policies in Dong Nai in order to seek out investment possibilities for paper and packaging business here.

Mr. Chaovalit Akabut hoped to gain support from local government in creating the most favorable conditions for long-term development of his company in the province if the group makes an investment decision in Dong Nai.

Thailand is now among Dong Nais largest foreign investors with many projects operating in the province including infrastructure development in industrial zones.
