Turnover of private wood processing sector in the province in the first 7 months of 2005 hit nearly 400 billion VND. The estimated turnover will record at the end of July 88 billion VND, up 36% over the same period of 2004. To date, Dong Nai has 400 wood processing units, 100 of which are private enterprises and limited liability companies while the other ones are owned by private families. Their products supply to both of the domestic and export markets. The following places in the province exhibit high growth rates in the private sector’s timber and wood processing industry: Bien Hoa city, Thong Nhat and Xuan Loc districts etc. Especially, Tan Hoa Ward in
Bien
Hoa
City
is famous for its tradition of making wood work with the presence of 200 large and medium scale units. These supply wide ranges of wood products with their fine quality to meet customer’s demands. However, prior to 2003, growth of private wood processing enterprises throughout the province has been slowed down due to difficulties arising from shortage of raw material source and other obstacles. From 2004, orientation for export of wood products as produced by local private enterprises has been increased dramatically. Particularly, wooden home furniture such as wardrobe, coffee tables, chairs, sofa set, TV cabinet, cart table, desk …. and carved wood furniture as made by skilled craftsmen in Tan Hoa Ward, Bien Hoa city aimed at new export markets including EU countries and the
US
. Accordingly, the increase of consumption by market opening benefits the growth of large and medium scale enterprises in field of timber and wood processing industry.
