On September 19, Le Truong Son, Member of the Dong Nai City Party Committee’s Standing Board and Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, received a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Vietnam and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), led by Pieter Leenknegt, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belgium to Vietnam. The visiting delegation held a working session with city leaders and toured three An Vui Mart convenience stores in Dong Nai to learn about their operations.

During the working session, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Truong Son briefed the delegation on the city's characteristics, population, and administrative boundaries, particularly since April 30, 2026, when Dong Nai officially became Vietnam's seventh city. He also highlighted the city's strengths in industry and agriculture, along with key transport projects prioritized by the Government of Vietnam and Dong Nai City, including Long Thanh International Airport, where construction is being accelerated with a view to commencing commercial operations by late 2026.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, the city also pays close attention to social security. Dong Nai is among the localities in Vietnam with a high number of Agent Orange/dioxin victims. The city highly values the positive results of coordination between the Dong Nai City People's Committee and the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam in recent times, particularly in the pilot implementation of three An Vui Mart convenience stores for families affected by Agent Orange/Dioxin in the city. The model is practical and humanitarian, helping create livelihoods, improve living conditions, and enable beneficiary families to gradually stabilize their lives. The city hopes the model will continue to be improved and expanded, thereby delivering concrete and long-term benefits to beneficiary families.

City leaders also expressed their hope that the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam would continue to serve as a bridge, supporting Belgian partners, businesses, and charitable organizations in exploring the city's investment and business environment and carrying out production, business, social welfare, and charitable activities in the city. Dong Nai City is committed to working with them, coordinating efforts and creating favorable conditions for these cooperative activities, thereby helping strengthen partnerships between Dong Nai City and Belgian partners and making these partnerships increasingly practical, effective, and deep-rooted.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Truong Son also congratulated Pieter Leenknegt, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam, on his new assignment in Vietnam, hoping that the new ambassador, in his position, would continue to contribute to strengthening relations between Belgium and Vietnam, including those with Dong Nai City.
The new Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt thanked the leaders of Dong Nai City for their warm welcome, noting that Dong Nai was the first Vietnamese locality he had visited in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam.
According to Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt, the Government and people of Belgium have always had special affection for the Vietnamese people and deeply empathized with and wished to share the plight of Agent Orange victims. The recent launch of the An Vui Mart convenience store model has provided not only material support but also opportunities for victims and their families to integrate into the community and earn their own income. Pieter Leenknegt said the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam thanked the city's leaders for creating favorable conditions for the effective implementation of the model in its initial stage. This would serve as a basis for the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam to continue implementing support programs for Agent Orange victims in the future.
Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt also said that, during his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Vietnam, he would connect Belgian businesses with investment opportunities in the city and carry out social welfare activities in the locality.
