Happy families – the foundation of a livable city

Family is where love is nurtured, character is shaped, and good cultural values are passed down from one generation to the next. From harmonious homes and exemplary families, Dong Nai is gradually spreading the movement to build cultural families throughout the community.

As the city develops into a civilized and modern urban area, caring for family life and preserving traditional values within each household are becoming increasingly meaningful. These are the foundations for fostering responsible citizens who contribute to Dong Nai's development and integration.

Every home spreads love in its own way

In Phu Rieng commune, the family of Nguyen Huynh Minh Tam and Le Thi Hong Anh (teachers at Bu Nho Primary School), has been recognized as an exemplary cultural family for many consecutive years. Despite their busy schedules at school, Anh and her husband arrange their time to care for their family and support their two children in their studies and personal development. Both children are well-behaved and academically excellent, while actively participating in cultural and sports activities organized by their school and local community.

Exemplary cultural families participate in sports activities and connect with one another at the Dong Nai City Family Festival 2026.

Le Thi Hong Anh shared: “Besides our work, every member of my family takes the initiative to share household chores so that our home remains warm and harmonious. Our everyday family meals are an opportunity for everyone to talk, listen to one another and better understand each other”.

In Phu Tan Hamlet, Phu Vinh commune, the family of Lang Thi Minh Anh, a San Diu ethnic woman, is among the exemplary families recognized for setting a good example and showing a sense of responsibility toward the community. In addition to complying with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, her family has actively developed its business and created jobs for local residents. Her family currently operates wedding, party and banquet services, earning approximately VND850 million per year and providing employment for about five workers, each earning VND4.5-5 million per month.

With stable economic conditions, Anh's family actively participates in social activities and contributes to charitable funds launched by the local authorities. During charitable gift-giving and medical examination programs organized by the locality in coordination with organizations and benefactors, her family also provides event tents, tables and chairs for the events. Her son serves in the self-defense militia force, contributing to maintaining security, order and social safety in the locality.

The strong foundation built within the home has made the story of Bien Hong Quan and Le Thu Hien's family reach beyond their locality in Tan An Hamlet, Tan An commune. Their exemplary lifestyle and sense of responsibility toward the community earned the family the honor of being one of four families from Dong Nai recognized at the first Family Festival honoring exemplary families of Southern provinces and cities in 2026. This is not only a source of pride for the family but also demonstrates the enduring vitality of the movement to build cultural families, where each exemplary family serves as a strong “bridge” toward building a civilized, prosperous and livable Dong Nai.

Turning family value system into reality

Recognizing the important role of families in social development, localities throughout the city have implemented various activities to improve the quality of the movement to build cultural families.

According to Dinh Xuan Hien, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Division of Ho Nai Ward, the locality is gradually expanding the movement from exemplary cultural families to cultural groups and cultural quarters. Many families in Ho Nai Ward have proactively developed their household economies, protected the environment and improved their spiritual lives, while participating in self-management groups, security and public order groups, and efforts to prevent and combat domestic violence. To date, 100% of quarters in Ho Nai Ward have achieved the title of cultural quarter, while nearly 98% of families have been recognized as cultural families.

Alongside initiatives by individual families and residential communities, Binh Long Ward has also focused on expanding family-based models. Bui Thuy Cong, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Division of Binh Long Ward, said that the models of family clubs and clubs for preventing and combating domestic violence have operated actively and effectively in recent years, gaining broader participation from local residents. Through these models, people are equipped with skills to communicate and resolve conflicts from the moment they arise, helping prevent domestic violence and create a healthy and equal living environment.

Looking at the overall picture, family-related work in Dong Nai has achieved impressive results in recent years. In 2025, more than 98% of families were recognized as cultural families, a significant increase from approximately 59% in 2000. Across the city, more than 1,400 groups for preventing and combating domestic violence, 1,900 trusted community addresses and 646 hotline numbers are currently maintained. In particular, the Code of Conduct for families, consisting of five core groups of general behavioral standards,  including respect, equality, love and sharing; fidelity and affection; setting an example and showing love; filial piety and politeness; and harmony and sharing, has attracted more than 96% of households to register for implementation.

Under the program to build cultural families, Dong Nai aims that by the end of 2026, more than 95% of households will meet cultural family standards; at least 90% of households will have improved knowledge of culture, skills in moral and lifestyle education, and the good traditions of the nation and local communities; and at least 95% of localities will incorporate education on family value system in the new era into their village conventions and community regulations.

Most recently, the city People’s Committee issued Plan No. 239/KH-UBND, dated August 29, 2026, on implementing national, cultural, and family value systems and standards for Vietnamese people in Dong Nai city. The plan identifies the family as the first environment in which people's character is formed, nurtured and developed, while also serving as a place where cultural and ethical values are preserved and passed from one generation to the next. Promoting family value system therefore plays an important role in building people and a healthy cultural environment, creating momentum for the city's development.
