Dong Nai's agriculture and environment sector focuses on effectively carrying out key tasks in second half of 2026

On July 24, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai City Party Committee (CPC) and Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut chaired a meeting with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review its first-half performance and outline key tasks for the remaining months of 2026.

According to the report presented at the meeting, the City People's Committee has decentralized and delegated authority to the Department of Agriculture and Environment to perform 84 tasks in areas including the quality management of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products; livestock; irrigation; environmental protection; water resources; and forest protection and forestry.

To date, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has fulfilled four of the seven socio-economic development targets, including ensuring that 100% of hazardous waste is collected and treated; 98% of operating industrial parks are equipped with centralized wastewater treatment systems that meet environmental standards; the forest coverage rate exceeds 25.5%; and domestic solid waste collection and treatment reaches 86% in urban areas and 68% in rural areas.

The remaining 3 out of 7 targets – the proportion of the rural population using standard clean water, the poverty rate, and the goal of having at least four new-style rural communes – are currently being implemented. Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector recorded GRDP growth of 4.86%, 0.1 percentage points higher than the planned scenario, continuing to maintain the sector's role in stabilizing the city's socio-economic development.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment has also strengthened the management and promoted the efficient use of natural resources across the city, contributing to economic growth while ensuring the supply of materials for key projects. It has also effectively carried out the management of mineral and water resources.

Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut emphasized that the Department of Agriculture and Environment plays an important role in fulfilling budget revenue targets. He highlighted the sector's achievements in leading the country in building and cleaning up the land database, stressing that this work should continue to be accelerated in the coming period.

Regarding key tasks for the remainder of the year, he requested the department to focus on stabilizing, maintaining, and developing Area 1 for crops, livestock, aquaculture, and agricultural and forestry farms, which plays an important role in achieving and surpassing the assigned targets. Under the high-tech agricultural development planning, cultivation zones and livestock production zones should be clearly identified. The conversion of crops and livestock must be based on soil and natural conditions to determine the most suitable and advantageous crops and livestock.

With regard to new-style rural development, the department was instructed to review and join efforts to ensure that, during July, all departments and agencies must issue the evaluation criteria under the Criteria Set for new-style rural area development for 2026–2030. Concerning mineral resource planning and the overall waste treatment plan, several shortcomings remain and require attention. Local authorities were also requested to take the initiative in planning and reviewing preferential policies and support mechanisms to attract investment in waste treatment.
