Together with two other mountains, Son Tra and Nui May, it forms a range locally known as the three mountain region. According to Khmer language, Mo So means white stone. Geological experts said that this limestone mountain was formed millions of years ago and it has over 20 caves of different sizes created by coastal erosion.
During the war against French colonialists, the mountain was a secret base of revolutionary fighters. Mo So has been chosen as the setting for numerous war-theme television productions, like “Con duong 1C huyen thoai” (the legendary road 1C) movie and the documentary “Tieu doan 207 anh hung” (the epic battalion 207).
Tourists might be impressed by an imposing scene of Mo So with a range of hills and mountains. Its caves normally have oval and wide shapes, thus bringing a pleasant feeling to visitors. There are stalactites of different and unique shapes hanging above the caves. A sky well that radiates light into a cave and a stone bell that delivers beautiful sound make the place exotic as well.
Inside the caves, tourists can admire an immense forest in a distance. Those coming to Mo So in the dry season can wade through some streams to visit the caves. However, in the rainy season they have to take a small boat to get inside the caves.
Tourists should not miss a moment of standing in front of the caves’ entrance in sunset and seeing herds of birds flying back to their nests.
