The Switzerland-Headquartered Ramsar Convention Secretariat has recognised the Bau Sau wetland in Cat Tien National Park in the southern province of Dong Nai as Viet Nams second Ramsar site

The Switzerland-Headquartered Ramsar Convention Secretariat has recognised the Bau Sau wetland in Cat Tien National Park in the southern province of Dong Nai as Viet Nams second Ramsar site.

 

The site ranks 1,499th in the world in importance and has been ordered strict protection from the World Natural Conservation (IUCN) in Viet Nam.

 

The Bau Sau site and other wetland areas in Cat Tien National Park cover 13,759 ha, of which 151 ha is wet year round and 5,360 ha is submerged during the monsoon season.

 

The Ramsar certification of Bau Sau has put Viet Nam into the group of countries with the most diversified ecological systems.

 

Viet Nam was the 50th country in the world to ratify the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and the first in Southeast Asia to implement it, according to IUCN sources.
