On September 5, more than 1 million pupils, students, and learners across Dong Nai City officially begun the 2026-2027 academic year with a back-to-school ceremony featuring several new elements. The theme for the new academic year, as identified by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), is: “Innovative Thinking — Strong Transformation — Tangible Results.”

Director of the Department of Education and Training (DoET) Dr. Dang Anh Tuan said: “With the leadership, direction and best possible support from the Dong Nai City Party Committee and People’s Committee, together with coordination from departments, sectors and localities, the city’s education sector and educational institutions have carefully prepared all necessary conditions and are confident in embarking on a new academic year featuring many innovations for the city’s future development.”
Confidently entering the new academic year
Before the start of the 2026-2027 academic year, the education sector promptly completed a large-scale restructuring of public educational institutions. As a result, the city reduced the number of public educational institutions by 453, representing more than 40 percent of the total compared with the period before July 1, 2025. Dong Nai was also among the localities nationwide to complete the restructuring of educational institutions at an early stage. Completing the restructuring of public schools ahead of schedule and as planned provides important momentum and a foundation for the education sector to successfully carry out its tasks for the new academic year.

This academic year is particularly significant for Nguyen An Ninh Primary School in Tam Hiep Ward, as the number of classes, teachers, and students has more than doubled compared with the previous academic year following its merger with Tan Tien Primary School. Principal Hoang Thi Ngoc of Nguyen An Ninh Primary School said with excitement: “The advantage is that before the merger, both schools had achieved Level 2 national standards and had a strong record in teaching and learning in the city. This is an important foundation for the school to pursue breakthroughs in management and improve the quality of teaching and learning.”
Principal Nguyen Thi Tra Giang of Hung Vuong Lower Secondary School in Trang Bom Ward said the school has more than 1,800 students this academic year, including 397 newly admitted sixth-graders. The new academic year is especially meaningful as it marks more than half a century of the school’s establishment and development. After 55 years of growth and development, the school takes pride in being one of the city’s outstanding educational institutions, with notable achievements including the Second-class Labor Order and the Third-class Labor Order. Ahead of the new academic year, the school achieved Level 3 education quality accreditation, Level 2 national standards, and the city-level Green, Clean and Beautiful School standard.
At kindergartens and general education schools in the border communes of Loc Thanh, Loc Tan, Tan Tien, Thien Hung, Hung Phuoc, Dak O, and Bu Gia Map, enthusiasm for the new academic year is also spreading widely. With close attention from the city, teaching and learning facilities in these areas have undergone significant improvements. Many schools have been prioritized for investment in new construction, renovation, and upgrading. In particular, ahead of this academic year’s opening ceremony, the city People’s Committee allocated more than VND30 billion to border communes to build prefabricated buildings and kitchens serving students in full-day boarding programs. The communes have also made efforts to mobilize funding from both public budgets and social sources to provide students with free textbooks.

The entire education sector of Dong Nai City must thoroughly understand and effectively implement the theme of the new academic year: “Innovative thinking — strong transformation — tangible results.” Every education manager, teacher, school staff member, and official at the commune and ward levels must deeply understand the directions of the Politburo and Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, on breakthroughs in the development of education and training, and develop action programs for effective implementation in the new academic year and subsequent years. Schools must maintain a strong focus and accelerate the application of information technology, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning.
Innovation begins with the back-to-school ceremony
To create momentum for the 2026-2027 academic year, MoET has issued guidelines for schools nationwide on organizing back-to-school ceremonies. Accordingly, the ceremonies will be held both in person and online nationwide, and will be broadcast live on the channels of Vietnam Television (VTV) and Voice of Vietnam (VOV). The central broadcast location will be the Primary and Lower Secondary Boarding School in Muong Khuong, Lao Cai Province. Each province and city will also arrange a main venue for connection. In Dong Nai, Hung Vuong Lower Secondary School in Trang Bom Ward has been selected as the local venue for the nationwide online connection.
According to DoET leaders, in line with the ministry’s guidelines, the city has developed a back-to-school ceremony program that ensures consistency while retaining features specific to the city and each educational institution. Specifically, ceremonies at schools across Dong Nai City will begin at 7 a.m. From 7 a.m. to 7:25 a.m., activities will include inauguration, handover, and commissioning ceremonies for newly built, renovated, or upgraded facilities, where applicable; welcoming new students; and leaders presenting congratulatory flower baskets, awards, and scholarships to students. From 7:30 a.m., Dong Nai students will watch the live broadcast and online program on VTV1.

To make the first day of the new academic year more engaging and exciting for students, DoET has also instructed educational institutions to create additional spaces for traditional education under the theme “Dong Nai Spirit,” as well as spaces for innovation and creativity. These activities will begin at 8:30 a.m., immediately after the formal ceremony. For the “Dong Nai Spirit” traditional education space, educational institutions said they are ready to introduce students to the artistic epic Dong Nai - Southern Spirit, Rising with the Nation. This meaningful local-history educational content will help students gain a deeper understanding of Dong Nai’s historical traditions, the province’s past and present development, and its future direction.
Meanwhile, for the innovation and creativity space, many educational institutions have set up booths showcasing STEM education, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI). Phan Vo Quynh Nhu, Chairwoman of the School Board of Bien Hoa Primary, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary School in Trang Dai Ward, said that in conjunction with the back-to-school program organized by MoET and DoET, the school has prepared additional engaging activities for students. Following the formal ceremony, in addition to enjoying the artistic epic Dong Nai — The Spirit of the South, Rising with the Nation, students are expected to participate in the innovation and creativity space, where they can program, assemble, and operate robots, explore AI, and take part in intellectual games.
