Speeding up the construction progress of the Dong Nai-based facility of University of Medicine and Pharmacy

On the afternoon of October 22, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son chaired a working session with leaders of relevant departments and branches on some issues related to the health sector.

In particular, the Construction Project on Dong Nai-based facility of University of Medicine and Pharmacy needs to be accelerated to create human resources for the province in the coming years.

According to the report of the Department of Health, the investor of the project "Developing medical human resources, Phase 2" is the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy proposed a project construction area of ​​about 41 hectares, of which the educational land (serving the construction of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy) is about 21 hectares; the medical land (dedicated to the construction of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital) is about 16.4 hectares and the remaining traffic planning land area is about 3.6 hectares in Phuoc Thai commune, Dong Nai province.

The land to be used is currently managed by Dong Nai Rubber Corporation Limited Company, and its current land use status is for rubber tree planting. In Notice No. 79/TB-UBND dated January 31, 2024 of the People's Committee of former Dong Nai province: Conclusion at the working session with Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy on investing and building the facility of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy under the project "Developing medical human resources, Phase 2", the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Investment (now the Department of Finance) as the focal agency of the Provincial People's Committee to guide Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy to carry out investment procedures to build its facility and the accompanying hospital.

During the stage of guiding the implementation of investment project procedures, it is within the advisory functions and tasks of the Department of Finance; therefore, on July 17, 2025, the Department of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 314/SYT-KHTC proposing the Provincial People's Committee to assign the Department of Finance as the focal agency of the Provincial People's Committee; the Department of Health coordinates related contents to work with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, to continue guiding the procedures to speed up the project investment progress.

Director of the Dong Nai Provincial Department of Health Do Thi Nguyen said: The Dong Nai-based facility of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy will expand learning opportunities for children living in the province; create conditions for the province's own doctors to update their expertise and "promise" to increase the number of doctors per 10,000 people in the province in the future. Therefore, the health sector hopes that this project will be implemented soon.

Also at the meeting, the leaders of the Department of Health advised on the implementation of Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo on a number of breakthrough solutions, strengthening the protection, care and improvement of people's health; on the establishment of an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) center; and the planning and development of other specialized centers such as: the 115 Emergency Center, Nephrology and Urology Center, Infertility Center, Nutrition Center, and others.  

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son emphasized: The Provincial People's Committee, relevant departments and branches and the People's Committee of Phuoc Thai commune will work with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City as soon as possible to speed up the implementation of the project. This is an important project because it will support the province in training human resources, especially doctors. However, the health sector must first compile the number of students currently studying here and clearly state the fields in which the university should provide “customized training. Following this, the Provincial People's Committee will sign an agreement with Ho Chi Minh City the University of Medicine and Pharmacy for a period of 5-10 years.

Regarding the construction of specialized centers, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Truong Son requested Dong Nai General Hospital to coordinate with the Department of Construction to adjust the general planning to suit the hospital's characteristics, including the early establishment of an ENT center. At the same time, the Department of Health should quickly develop a policy to retain and attract high-quality human resources to submit to the Provincial People's Council at the year-end meeting.
