Amid the hustle and bustle of daily life, there are always those who quietly help spread love and sow hope for people in difficult circumstances. “Arms of Compassion”, a deeply humanitarian program organized by the grassroots trade union of Changshin Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tan Trieu ward), serves as a bridge connecting the hearts of company employees with their colleagues who are suffering from serious illnesses.

Launched in 2009, the program is funded through contributions from the company’s workforce, aiming to ease the financial burden on workers undergoing medical treatment. Each story shared and every helping hand extended stands as a testament to the power of compassion within the enterprise.

Sowing seeds of hope

Having worked at Changshin Vietnam Co., Ltd. for 20 years, Vo Thi Ngoc Thu has always strived to complete her tasks and maintain harmony and solidarity with her colleagues. In early 2025, during a health checkup, she was diagnosed with kidney failure. The emotional shock, coupled with high treatment costs, once drove her into despair. Learning of her situation, the company’s grassroots trade union reached out to offer encouragement, providing nearly 47 million VND from the “Arms of Compassion” program to help cover her medical expenses.

Vo Thi Ngoc Thu said emotionally that after two decades with the company, she has always felt reassured by stable employment and well-guaranteed benefits. During that time, she participated in fundraising efforts to support her colleagues who were facing serious illnesses. When she herself fell ill, she, in turn, received warmth and care from her co-workers and the grassroots trade union.

“I am deeply moved because the love I once gave has now been returned to me. I am grateful to the company’s grassroots trade union and all my fellow workers for standing by my side, lifting my spirits, and helping me focus on recovery,” Thu confided.

As for Nguyen Ngoc Tu, who also works at the company, he was previously diagnosed with kidney failure and had to undergo dialysis three times a week. In the depths of despair caused by his illness, Tu regained his confidence thanks to the companionship and encouragement of the company’s trade union. Thanks to the “Arms of Compassion” program, he received nearly 50 million VND in financial support for his treatment. In May 2025, he was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant and has since recovered, returned to work at the company, and continued to dedicate himself to his profession.

Nguyen Ngoc Tu shared that the “Arms of Compassion” program, launched by the grassroots trade union, is both significant and humanitarian. It not only embodies love and human kindness but also brings life-saving value to workers battling illness. Tu said he feels fortunate to have joined the company and become a trade union member. He hopes the program will continue to grow, allowing more workers with serious illnesses to receive timely support, overcome hardship, live with optimism, and contribute to society.

Sharing love

Aside from Thu and Tu, many other workers who once seemed to reach a dead end after being diagnosed with serious illnesses have managed to rise again, thanks to the encouragement and support from the grassroots trade union and the collective of employees. It is the timely support that has fueled, motivated and empowered many trade union members to overcome difficulties and move forward.

According to Dang Tuan Tu, Chairman of the grassroots trade union of Changshin Vietnam Co., Ltd., the “Arms of Compassion” program originated from empathy for workers facing serious illness. Based on this understanding, the trade union established a program to help alleviate employees’ financial burdens during treatment. Over 47 rounds of implementation, the program has provided nearly 20 billion VND in support to almost 500 trade union members and employees suffering from severe illnesses. On average, each beneficiary has received about 40 million VND.

“Although the amount of money is not large, it represents the heartfelt compassion of all employees in the company sharing with one another, as we are all members of one big family. The "Arms of Compassion" program provides not only material support but also strengthens the will to live for those facing hardship. Through it, the company’s collective spirit of empathy, sharing, and mutual support is clearly demonstrated,” Tu shared.

More than just short-term relief, the "Arms of Compassion" program also aims toward sustainable development for those receiving support.

Nguyen Thu Hang, a worker who has been involved with the “Arms of Compassion” program for eight years, said she takes part because it embodies strong humanitarian values where compassion is shared and human connections grow. Every month, she sets aside a small portion of her salary to support the program, hoping that more workers facing hardship will receive timely assistance.

According to Dang Tuan Tu, the work of caring for the lives of trade union members and employees is included in the annual key tasks of the Company's Trade Union Executive Committee. Special attention is given to workers in hardship or those suffering from serious illnesses. In addition to the "Arms of Compassion" program, the trade union also runs other initiatives, including the Trade Union Shelter programme, visiting workers in rented housing, organizing traditional Tet celebrations for ethnic minority employees, and presenting gifts to those building new homes. From now until the end of 2025, the trade union will continue to focus on major employee welfare activities and negotiate a fair Tet bonus, motivating workers to fulfill the company’s production and business plans.
