(ĐN)- Currently, the proportion of poor households in Dong Nai is 0.69 percent, a sharp drop from 1.76 percent in 2016.

Dong Nai plans to change the criteria for poor households by 2019. Accordingly, each household earning below VND1.2 million per month per person in rural areas or below VND1.45 million per month per person in urban areas is considered poor.

With such criteria, Dong Nai will record about 10,265 poor households, or 1.3 percent of the total and roughly 19,382 near-poor households, accounting for 2.45 percent of the total.

Dong Nai will continue efforts to reduce the ratio of poor households and near-poor households by 0.3 percent and 0.5 percent each year, respectively.

Particularly, the province will raise nearly VND435 billion to implement poverty reduction programs. The money will be used to provide preferential loans to 18,000 poor and near-poor households, give health insurance cards to 205,000 needy people, offer free medical check-ups and treatments to 16,500 poor people, help cover tuition fees for disadvantaged students, build charity houses, provide vocational training to labourers, etc.
