(ĐN)- On March 2, Dong Nai provincial Steering Committee on the Prevention and Control of Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Fake Commodities (or Steering Committee 389) held a meeting to deploy its tasks in 2017.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Van Vinh of the provincial People’s Committee, who is also Head of Steering Committee 389, asked relevant agencies to exert greater efforts to combat trade fraud and counterfeit goods, hold more unscheduled inspections of food hygiene and safety in food production and trading this year.
So far, food safety issues have been a constant worry to the public, and he ordered the departments and agencies focus on increasing awareness of the importance of food safety among food businesses and provide guidance for the consumers on how to select safe foods.
In 2016, 6,243 breaches of food safety and quality regulations were discovered with the total fine collected worth more than VND824 billion.
