The Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in HCMC (KoCham) raised over VND3.4 billion in cash and gifts from 184 member businesses for underprivileged people in Vietnam, KoCham announced at its annual charity night in the city last weekend.
The cash and gifts will go directly to the sponsoring associations for the disabled and orphaned in HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and Long An, Thien Phuoc Center for Children with Disability, HCMC Association of Agent Orange/dioxin Victims, Korean school for Vietnamese-Korean children, the center for old Korean people in HCMC.
They will also be used to fund operations on poor patients and grant scholarships to school children of ethnic minority groups in rural areas.
The rest of the money totaling some VND700 million will be spent on KoCham’s annual charity activities, including supporting the poor, building houses of gratitude and awarding scholarships.
Launched in 2004, the KoCham Charity Night has raised over VND13 billion in cash and VND6 billion worth of gifts to aid needy Vietnamese people throughout the country.
Established in 2003, KoCham now has 650 members representing over 2,000 South Korean firms in Vietnam.
