Under the plan, the students will have one math class taught in English per week among their optional classes.
Tran Minh Tam, deputy principal of the school, said participating students are those who had achieved the highest scores in the school’s entrance exam and passed an English proficiency test for the program.
The result of the pilot classes will not be used to evaluate the students' final math results.
Instead, the classes aim to help the students get acquainted with English terminology in mathematics, improve their thinking capability, and update their scientific knowledge, as well as enhance their ability to communicate in English.
In addition, they are meant to create a platform so that the students will be able to follow international programs in the future.
According to the school’s deputy principal, there has been no specific criterion for the pilot classes’ teachers.
They are just required to be good at, and confident in, teaching math in English, he added.
Prior to teaching the classes, the teachers attended a training course on teaching in English held by the Ministry of Education and Training.
The whole budget for the program is VND300 million (US$13,393), provided by the ministry.
