Under the MoU, the AIP Foundation and the US Embassy in Vietnam have called on American and Vietnamese enterprises to sponsor helmets for preschool and primary children in 15 provinces and cities nationwide.

They will also organise activities to educate children about traffic safety in a bid to increase the rate of children wearing helmets and to prevent losses due to traffic accidents.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius said that the US Government and AIP Foundation look towards encouraging educational activities to protect the lives of Vietnamese children.

President of AIP Foundation Greig Craft said that traffic accidents are currently the main cause of death for youth in Vietnam and these losses can be prevented. This event is an opportunity to raise public awareness of traffic safety, he added.

The MoU was built based on the 15-year co-operation between the US Government and the AIP Foundation as in 2000, former US President Bill Clinton announced the 'Helmets for Kids' programme in Ho Chi Minh City and later Senator John Kerry launched this programme in Hanoi. It was also an activity to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the US.
