The wastewater treatment facilities are part of amaster plan for developing drainage systems and wastewater treatments in residential areas and industrial zones in the Dong Nai River basin by 2030.
The facilities will be constructed in HCMC and other localities in the basin area with a combined treatment capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters a day by 2020. The total capacity will be raised to 4.2 million cubic meters a day by 2030.
Under the zoning plan, 11 wastewater treatment facilities will be up and running in HCMC, nine in Dong Nai Province, six in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, five in each of Long An, Tay Ninh and Binh Thuan provinces, four in Lam Dong Province and one in Binh Duong Province.
Drainage system projects will be built in other localities in line with the local zoning plans in these localities. Wastewater from industrial parks and craft villages should be collected and treated before being discharged into the river.
More than VND99 trillion will be needed for construction of drainage systems and wastewater treatment facilities by 2020 and over VND69 trillion in 2020-2030. The investment will be funded by the State budget, official development assistance (ODA) loans and other sources.
The building of wastewater treatment facilities will be prioritized in HCMC, Dong Nai and Binh Duong.
The Dong Nai River basin covers about 47,000 square kilometers in HCMC, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Long An, Tay Ninh, Lam Dong, Dak Nong, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Daklak.
