(ĐN)- Over the past ten years, Dong Nai has made utmost efforts to fight against prostitution, which has been getting more sophisticated although the number of sex workers is decreasing.
In this period, 233 cases involved prostitution were exposed in which 1,344 people, including 198 brokers, were captured.
The provincial Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control admitted that more professional prostitution rings are capitalizing on the development of the Internet, mobile phones and other modern devices to market themselves both at home and abroad, making it difficult for law enforcement officials to control.
To eliminate this, concerned local agencies have actively launched awareness campaigns, keeping the public mindful of laws and discipline. They have combined socio-economic development and social welfare policies with vocational training projects in a bid to help former sex workers integrate into the community.
Besides, the province’s functional agencies also enhanced inspections and work with localities which are hotbeds of social evils. Meanwhile, the police force was requested to increase investigations and prosecutions as well as deal with violations in this field.
Presently, sex services are emerging at karaoke parlours and dance halls, resulting in social insecurity and serious public concern.
In the coming time, the committee will continue to team up with relative agencies to raise the efficiency of the combat against prostitution. Moreover, further models to prevent prostitution and support former sex workers to reintegrate into the community will be piloted.
