Over VND19 billion (US$893,000) was contributed by businesses and donors to a fund of the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans (ASVHO) at an art exchange themed 'Jobs for Handicapped, Opportunities for Orphans' in Hanoi on April 13.

The amount, together with VND10 billion (US$470,000) which has been raised at a recent charity walk, will be spent on eye surgeries, wheelchairs, vocational training and job creation for the handicapped and orphans nationwide.
The annual gathering, organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the ASVHO and the Vietnam Television, saw the participation of Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen.
Donors and handicapped and orphans across the country were honoured during special art performances.
Over the past 10 years the organisation has raised funds for Vietnam’s handicapped and orphaned. Last year, local and international organisations and individuals donated VND409 billion (US$19.2 million) to fund orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation for 3,400 handicapped, vocational training and job offerings for 2,900 targeted beneficiaries, repairs of 775 charity homes and regular allowances for 63,000 people.
