Thousands of gifted students win prizes in national contest

The Ministry of Education and Training gave away prizes to 1,235 students across the country for their outstanding achievements in a contest for gifted high school students in the academic year 2012-2013.

Among them 53 were first prize winners, 400 got second prize, and 782 received third prize. This year Hanoi was leading with 91 prizes with 9 first prize.

The Red River Delta provinces continued to occupy the highest positions, with Hai Duong Province having 48 winners (3 first prizes); Hung Yen Province with 37 winners (2 first prizes); Vinh Phuc Province with 38 winners (1 first prize); Phu Tho and Ninh Binh Provinces both with 33 winners (2 first prizes); Thai Binh Province with 37 winners; Quang Ninh Province with 32 winners; Bac Giang Province with 33 winners (1 first prize); Bac Ninh Province with 24 winners (2 first prizes); Ha Nam Province with 25 winners (2 first prizes).

The North-Central region also got a few high places. Besides Nghe An Province coming at third leading position, Thanh Hoa Province had 47 winners (4 first prizes); Ha Tinh Province with 33 winners; Da Nang Province with 52 winners; and Hue City with 22 winners.

In the South East region, except for Ho Chi Minh City, which stands at a rather high position with 36 winners (3 first prizes); other areas occupy rather low places such as Binh Phuoc Province with 24 winners; Dong Nai Province with 13 winners; and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 14 winners.

Unfortunately, the North West, the Western Highlands, and the South West regions continue to stand at the lowest positions.

The South West Provinces of Soc Trang and Tra Vinh have three winners each; the North West Province of Tuyen Quang, the Western Highlands Province of Gia Lai, and the South West Provinces of Vinh Long and Kien Giang have two winners each; the North West Provinces of Bac Kan and Ha Giang as well as the South West Provinces of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu have only one winner each.

In a similar contest for gifted students from in high schools under the management of universities, the Hanoi National University leads the list with 47 winners (3 first prizes); the Hanoi University of Pedagogy with 44 winners (2 first prizes); followed by Ho Chi Minh City National University with 39 winners (2 first prizes). 

The next positions went to the Vinh University with 14 winners (1 first prize) and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Pedagogy with 2 third prizes.
