14th National Safety Week launched in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- The 14th National Week of Labour Safety and Hygiene - Fire Prevention was launched in Dong Nai on March 18 to emphasize the importance of creating a corporate culture of preventing occupational accidents and diseases.

The event was attended by National Assemply Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) Dang Ngoc Tung, Dong Nai province’s leaders, and representatives from international organizations, ministries, sectors, provinces, and cities nationwide.   

In 2011, nearly 5,900 occupational accidents occurred in Vietnam, claiming the lives of 504 people and causing serious injuries to 1,314 others, 16% more than the previous year.

Last year also saw more than 1,750 fires and 35 explosion, killing 84 people and injuring 245 others, causing an estimated loss of over VND600 billion.

The majority of the incidents were attributed to technical errors and human carelessness.

The week is being launched to implement the Prime Minister’s instructions and raise public and business awareness of their responsibilities and improve the role of State management.

On this occasion, NA Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also presented Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to organizations that have made significant contributions to this issue. Changshin VN’s trade union also received excellent emulation flag of VGCL.
