(ĐN)- Last year, some projects were delayed due to difficulties in site clearance and resettlement. Accordingly, Dong Nai’s transport sector is continuing its efforts to complete major projects to make a milestone in transport infrastructure development.

The projects includes National Highway 51 expansion project, Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway, Long Thanh International Airport, roundabouts at two ends of new Dong Nai bridge and tunnels and branch roads at Vung Tau T junction, National Highway 20 upgrading project.

National Highway 51 expansion project, a traffic artery of strategic significance to the southern key economic zone, was started construction on August 2, 2009. The VND3.3-trillion project is expected to be completed this year to promote socio-economic development in the southern region and reduce traffic accidents. Presently, 85 percent of project has been completed, said the project management board.

Along with National Highway 51 expansion project, the HCM-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway will help boost growth of the southern key economic triangle that combines Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Good progress has been made in construction work on the highway after two years, according to the project management board. Work has been underway on five construction bidding packages of the 55-kilometre highway. The highway would be completed by 2013, shortening the distance between HCM City and the provinces of Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and other south-eastern provinces. The highway will also link with the Long Thanh International Airport scheduled to be built in Dong Nai by 2015.

Long Thanh International Airport Model

Long Thanh International Airport, Vietnam’s largest international airport, will open to the public in 2020. The airport is scheduled to begin in 2015 and expected to be fully operational by 2035, with an annual capacity of 100 million passengers. Covering more than 5,000ha, Long Thanh airport will play an important role in improving the province’s economy, its tourism industry, and other key industrial and agricultural sectors.

New Dong Nai bridge to link Dong Nai province and HCM city was officially opened to traffic on Dec 31 after more than 18 months of construction. It is an important project that will help streamline traffic at the eastern gateway of HCM City. However, further efforts should be made to speed up construction of tunnels and branch roads at Vung Tau T junction and roundabouts at two ends of the bridge, the Vung Tau T-Intersection and Tan Van.

National Highway 20 upgrading project kicked off

National Highway 20 upgrading project was kicked off on December, 2011 to assure bauxite transport from Tan Rai alumina factory in Lam Dong province to Go Dau port in Dong Nai province. National Highway 20 is the backbone of the alumina transport route, but the road has seriously deteriorated under the burden of heavy-duty trucks transporting materials and machinery for the bauxite project in Tan Rai over the past few years. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Traffic plays an important role in the socio-economic development. Therefore, Dong Nai will do its best to complete the construction of key traffic project to meet travel demand of the people as well as local economic development.
