(ĐN)- Nhon Trach district’s Red Cross Chapter on April 21 held a meeting to review its activities in the 2005-10 period and discuss tasks for 2011-16 period.
Over the past five years, the chapter raised over VND17.2 billion to help local poor people. The money was used to present gifts and provide financial support to more than 55,057 difficult households and disabled people, build 87 charitable houses, provide free meals to poor patients in Nhon Trach General Hospital, take care of seven war martyrs’ mothers, award scholarships and bicycles to studious students.
Implementing the campaign “Each organization, individual should stick to a humanitarian address” launched by Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross Association, the chapter mobilized 49 organizations and individuals to assist more than 100 poor beneficiaries and AO/dioxin victims, give 72 wheelchairs to people with disabilities. In 2008 – 2010, the chapter and its agencies raised over VND11.9 billion for social activities. Particularly, the chapter provided free medical check-ups and medicines to more than 5,200 patients, offered free eye check-ups and surgeries to 2,200 poor blind people, launched humanitarian blood donation programs and collected more than 2,700 blood units.
In the next period, the chapter will continue its efforts to raise more donations for local poor people
