(ĐN)- Recently, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga had a working session with the provinces Steering Board for Poverty Reduction and related agencies to discuss a draft document on new criteria of poverty line in the period of 2011 – 2015.
Dong Nais new poverty line is tentatively set at VND850,000 per capita per month for people in urban areas, and VND650,000 per capita for those living in rural areas. With the new criteria, the province’s standardized poverty line is 1.3 times higher than the current levels, VND650,000 and VND450,000, respectively. According to the steering board, the existing poverty criteria were formulated in 2009, but the fast increase of the consumer price index in recent years has pushed many poor people further into hardship due to soaring prices of many items, especially food. Accordingly, the province’s new criteria of poverty line will be issued based on its own real socio-economic conditions. Reported by T.Thuy
