(ĐN)- In 2008, Dong Nai provincial Study Promotion Association and its branches mobilized more than VND17.6 billion for study promotion activities, encouraged 63,391 families to register to become fondness of learning family, developed additional 200 new branches with 15,509 members.

Established in 2001, the association now has more than 2,100 branches in schools, communes, wards, and enterprises. Its activities have been highly appreciated and widely recognized in the country.

In order to get practical results, the association’s members have made many efforts to expand the study promotion movement. Particularly, the association rewarded students and teachers for their excellent achievements in teaching and learning, awarded scholarships to poor students and ethnic people, built and upgraded schools, called children of poor families to return school, commend ‘fondness of learning’ families, etc.

Especially, the association launched the scholarship programme “Giving strength for student" in 2005. The programme aims to not only provide financial assistance for poor university students but also help them to complete their university education. The annual scholarships are awarded to students during their university years.

From the start, the programme received active supports from local individuals and enterprises. In 2005, the association mobilized to give “Giving strength for student” scholarships worth VND1.2 million each to 116 beneficiaries; the figure increased to 388 in 2007. Later, the program has been expanded to the provincial districts and town.

Until now, 1,044 university students living in the province have received the scholarships, 200 of them graduated and had stable jobs, said Dong Nai Study Promotion Association’s leader Vu Dinh Sung.

Besides efforts made by the association, Dong Nai-based enterprises and organizations have offered many scholarship programs to encourage students to study well. During the past years, scholarship funds launched by Ajinomoto, TCL, Mabuchi and Bao Viet Dong Nai, Dong Nai Newspaper, Dong Nai Radio and Television, etc, helped a large number of students to continue their study.
