Dong Nai province’s Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Association opposes against US court’s AO decision

(ĐN)- On March 10, the province’s Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Association held a press conference to voice their strong opposition against the US Supreme Court’s decision on March 2 to dismiss an appeal by Vietnamese AO/dioxin victims.

The US Supreme Court on March 2 announced its decision to refuse petitions for reinstating the lawsuit lodged by Vietnamese and US victims Agent Orange (AO) against producers of the toxic chemical used during the Vietnam War. This decision of the US Supreme Court is irrational and inhumane.

With this decision, the US Supreme Court has denied the serious effects of AO/dioxin, sprayed by the US army during the Vietnam war, on the environment and the health of the Vietnamese people, even though these effects have been confirmed by numerous research projects, carried out by scientists around the world, including US scientists.

Even though many decades have gone by since the end of the war, millions of Vietnamese AO/dioxin victims are still suffering from psychological and physical pain. The US chemical companies should be well aware of this matter and should uphold their legal, spiritual and moral responsibility, joining efforts to resolve the consequences of their AO/dioxin use on their Vietnamese victims.

At the meeting, the province’s Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Association stated its strong support for the struggle of Vietnamese AO victims and would will make its utmost efforts to contribute to achieving justice for the victims.

On this occasion, the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee called on all organizations and individuals across the province to voice their solidarity, support and assistance to lend more weight to the Vietnamese AO victims’ battle for justice.
