Bao Anh and Bao Em are two brothers who live with their parents in a boat house on Tri An Lake. Bao Anh and Bao Em’s place is a poor fishing hamlet called Ben Ca hamlet in Vinh Cuu district. Like many other families in that hamlet, their family is poor.

Bao Anh, Bao Em’s older brother, was born in 1987. Although Bao Anh was an excellent student, especially in mathematics and he received many certificates of merit for achivement, he dropped out school in the 11th grade to help his family because they did not have enough to eat. Bao Anh has to work very hard to earn money for the family and do anything for pay. He has only a wish for the future: be able to find a job to get money for the family and pay school fees for Bao Em but he said he finds it very difficult to find a job and even he cannot attend vocational training centres because he doesnot have identity papers.
Bao Em is now a tenth-grade student at the Tri An Senior High School. He was also an excellent student in his junior year in high school and passed junior high school graduation examination with good marks. Bao Em has to work to help the family and he tries not to skip class but he afraids that he will drop out of school because of poverty.
