Measures to protect Bien Hoa city’s people from dioxin infection

(ĐN)- On May 28, a delegation of Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA) led by Vice Chairman Le Vu Anh had a working session with Dong Nai’s departments and agencies to discuss measures to protect local people from dioxin infection.

(ĐN)- On May 28, a delegation of Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA) led by Vice Chairman Le Vu Anh had a working session with Dong Nai’s departments and agencies to discuss measures to protect local people from dioxin infection.

The VPHA’s study results showed that Bien Hoa city is one of seven dioxin hotspots in Vietnam. Around Bien Hoa city, especially in Trung Dung and Tan Phong wards, the dioxin level is 1,000 times above the safe level. High dioxin levels were found in water, duck, fish in some dioxin hotspots in Bien Hoa city.         

At the working session, the representatives from Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Health, Dong Nai Agent Orange Victims Association said that it is necessary to raise local peoples awareness on the risks of dioxin infection. Besides, the VPHA will coordinate with related agencies to take suitable measures to protect local people from dioxin infection.
