Dong Nai Province has invested in residential villages like this one to relocate fish famers in an effort to free Tri An Reservoir from environmental hazards

The amount of toxic materials and micro-organisms in Tri An Reservoir have significantly decreased from the beginning of the year, according to the latest statistics from the Dong Nai Environmental Assessment and Technical Centre.

According to new measurements, the reservoir, which is often used for agricultural irrigation and aquaculture, meets the Vietnamese environmental standards to be tapped for clean water for daily use but on the condition that fish-breeding activities in the reservoir stop.

Tri An Reservoir is located in Vinh An Town in Dong Nai Province’s Vinh Cuu District, 65km from HCM City and 30km from Bien Hoa City.

Among 216 samples from the reservoir, most contained acceptable levels of micro-organisms and none contained toxic substances. In some of the samples, however, there were higher than acceptable levels of pollution from materials including heavy metals and ammonia. Samples containing pollution were mostly taken from the area near the shore in Dinh Quan District.

Based on these results, the provincial authority has asked departments, industries and localities to continue supervision to prevent fish breeding in pools, dams and channels along Tri An Reservoir. Authorities also urged serious measures to be taken in cases of improper licensing for the use of land surrounding the lake and pollution-producing activities.
