The Industry Minster inspects the fight against bird flu in Dong Nai

Deputy Director of the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development Phan Minh Bau said that no new fowls were reported dead of bird flu in Dong Nai province as of the beginning of 2006. Bau also affirmed that Dong Nai has discovered no new cases of H5N1 infections since the early 2006. He reported that new flocks put the quack back into poultry farms across the province after the epidemic over the past year and Dong Nai has now 4.5 million poultry animals. In 2006, the province has done well in vaccinating its poultry against bird flu and the provincial animal health agencies have vaccinated some 659,256 out of 744,235 fowls in the first stage and 2,041,039 out of 2,219,529 fowls in the second stage. Besides, the province closely monitors the transport and trade of poultry and poultry products while intensifies disinfection and detoxification of farms.

Speaking at the working session, Minister Hai stressed that Dong Nai province should further enhance propaganda work to the people and promote the dissemination of information about bird flu to raise public awareness of the disease. The Minister also pointed out the province need to take strong measures on the occasion of the coming Tet holidays to prevent a recurrence of bird flu after virus type A was once again detected in poultry flocks in several southern provinces.

 

During the stay in Dong Nai province, the Minister has done a reality check to inspect bird flu prevention in Bien Hoa market and Trang Bom district.
