Dong Nai’s journalists have selected ten events of most important significance in the province in 2006. They include:
1- A series of activities have been organized throughout the year in Dong Nai province to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the war zone D. These are significant activities to educate the traditions for young people and encourage the Dong Nai people to advance forward faster in the renovation process and in the context of international integration. Major celebrations and events that occurred during December 2006 to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the foundation of the South Vietnam’s Central Committee, the 60th anniversary of the National Resistance Day and the 62nd anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army …. have broadcasted live nationwide.
2- Now every Monday morning, officials and staff of provincial agencies attend the ceremony to salute the flag. This activity has been carrying out throughout the province since September 2, 2006 on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the National Day.
3- Party cells in the province organized periodical meetings that have been broadcasted live on the Dong Nai Radio and Television. Besides, resolutions from the 10th Party Congress have disseminated widely through media broadcasts, and the internet by the Provincial Party Committee. The application of information technology for dissemination purposes helps save time and cost.
4 - The tenth plenary session of the seventh-term Dong Nai People’s Council adopted resolutions relating policies on site clearance and resettlement compensation as well as setting compensation prices.
5- Dong Nai posted over US$4.2 billion in export earnings this year, up year-on-year by nearly 34 per cent, accounting for 11 per cent of the country’s total export value. Dong Nai takes the lead in the southern key economic zone in term of export revenues. The province has achieved a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 14.3% this year despite facing many difficulties. The result has proved the determination of Dong Nai in making it a modern-oriented industrialized province.
6- In 2005, overcoming 140,000 competitors from 183 countries, Vinacafe Bien Hoa was awarded the WIPO prize by the World Intellectual Property Organization. The Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology won the Golden Cup in information security for its work “None Standard Security Portal (NSSP)” at the APICTA 2006 held in Macau S.A.R.
7- Dong Nai province hosted successfully the Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships 2006. The two-day championship has attracted 90 athletes from 14 Asian countries and territories, who competed for 18 sets of medals in five events, including the junior men’s bodybuilding, the masters men’s bodybuilding, the women’s bodybuilding, and the miss fitness and miss body fitness. Vietnamese womens sepak takraw team including athletes from Dong Nai province won 2 gold medals at the 15th Asian Games (ASIAD 15) in Doha, Qatar.
8- Truong Hai Auto Company has posted a turnover of nearly US$ 100 million in 2006, a record figure in the history of the country’s automobile assembling industry. Truong Hai has ranked second among automobile makers in Vietnam after Toyota Motor of Japan.
9- Dong Nai Young Business Join Stock Company has signed capital transfer agreement with Cheerfield Vina Co, Ltd and purchased 100% of total capital of Cheerfield Vina Co, Ltd with a symbolic price of US$ 1. Dong Nai’s private businesses are proving their activeness and effectiveness.
10- Construction cost of the Cao Cang pump station in Tan Phu district is estimated at VND 14 billion. However, this project may be reconsidered.
