Dong Nai Newspaper’s reporter had an interview with Mrs. Bui Ngoc Thanh, Head of the Mass Mobilisation Department of the Provincial Party Committee on reviewing mass mobilisation efforts in 2006.

Reporter: Please do you evaluate the mass mobilisation work has done during the past year?

Mrs. Bui Ngoc Thanh: Dong Nai’s economy continued to maintain a high growth rate in 2006 and many positive changes were seen in various aspects of the social life and the province has maintained political stability, security and law and order. The provincial Party committee and the local government always attach great importance to mass mobilisation and the mass mobilisation work has developed strongly over the past year. The provincial party committee has focused on strengthening the political system and mass mobilisation at the grassroots level and linking them with socio-economic development. The living conditions of the local people have improved remarkably. Dong Nai tops the list with annual average per capita income of VND 15.5 million. However, the rate of poor households in the province is still high. Over the past year, the provincial Party Committee has attached special importance to the socialization of hunger elimination and poverty alleviation. As a result, about VND 70 billion were mobilised from all resources to help poor people build houses and improve their living standards. Until now, the province has basically accomplished the elimination of thatched cottages and dilapidated houses of the poor. Besides, the local authorities has paid special attention to granting ethnic-minority families parcels of arable land, access to clean water and funding to build houses in order to help them escape from poverty. Hence, the Dong Nai people are very happy with with the achievements in socio-economic development and hunger eradication and poverty alleviation during the past year and strongly believe in the bright future of the country.

Reporter: Tell us, please, the action plan for the future to tap advantages and overcome shortcomings?

Mrs. Bui Ngoc Thanh: In 2007, the province will focus on the development and consolidation of staff for mass mobilisation work as well further strengthen the mass mobilisation at the grassroots level and take care for people’s interests. The Fatherland Front as well as mass and social organisations will continue efforts to reform their operations. The action plan also targets to raise the rate of the Fatherland Front as well as mass and social organisations to be recognized as strong and healthy units up to more than 70 per cent.

Reporter: Thank you very much
