To welcome the lunar New Year (Tet), many cultural and entertainment programs will be organized in large cities throughout the holiday.
"Hello New Year 2006" is a music show held by the Performing Arts Department and will be broadcast live on VTV3 on the eve of Tet. A nationwide audience will have a chance to enjoy special items selected from the Professional Song, Dance and Music Festival 2005.
In Hanoi, many cultural activities will take place at Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) January 30 – February 2, including human chess, calligraphy exhibitions and a talk about Tet poetry.
Meanwhile, singers and models, including Thanh Lam, My Linh, Ho Quynh Huong, Dang Duong and Viet Hoan, will perform at 20 outdoor stages throughout the city. The Youth Theatre, the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Hanoi Drama Theatre will also stage performances.
At the Ho Chi Minh Museum, an exhibition of Korean calligraphic art based on President Ho Chi Minh’s Prison Diary will run until February 1 and the Vietnam History Museum will display a collection of antiques and 12 animal designations through March 2007.
The Vietnam Ethnology Museum will also welcome visitors during Tet with a photo exhibition of Vietnamese communal houses and a Spring Flower Festival at the West Lake Water Park will run until January 28, free of charge.
In HCM City, Trong Dong will host a music show themed "Spring Meeting", which will begin on January 29 with Cam Ly, Dan Truong, Doan Trang and Khanh Ngoc. Cau Vong 126 will also offer the variety show "Welcome Spring 2006" from January 29 to February 7, with singers Dam Vinh Hung, Ngoc Son, Cam Ly, Nguyen Vu, and Van Quang Long.
The M&Toi and Dong Dao Night Clubs will feature Quang Dung, overseas Vietnamese singer Elvis Phuong and Dam Vinh Hung.
The Lan Anh Club will hold a program called Sweet Spring 2006 from January 30 to February 5 with famous singers My Tam, Quang Dung, Thanh Thao, Phuong Thanh, Dam Vinh Hung, Lam Truong, Minh Thuan, Doan Trang, Viet Quang, Nguyen Phi Hung and other comedic artists.
Cinebox, Diamond, Galaxy and Fafilm movie houses will offer audiences a chance to taste some Vietnamese and Hollywood films such as De Muon (Hired Birth) and Two in One.
Theatres will also launch new productions and Idecaf will present four new dramas: Who I am?, Khalip, Wine-bottle of Universe and Three Men Surnamed Loi, with three performances from January 29 to February 2.
Phu Nhuan Theatre will also introduce five new dramas: Puberty, Teo Returns Home, Lovely Trick, Angle Knocks Your Door, and Hired Wife from January 29 to February 5, also with three performances per day.
The 5B stage will offer both comedies and dramas, including Like Famous People, A Girl Who Gets Married, The Train to Heaven and Flying Doctor from January 28 to February 5 with two performances per day.
The Saigon Drama stage will offer two comedies: Good Son-in-Law and Million Dollar, while the HCM City Drama Theatre will perform The Door to Heaven and several short dramas and comedies such as The Story of a Beauty Queen, Crash, Important Secret, and Memorable New Year’s Eve.
